A man who laced treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual crimes against two young males who were nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.

The 76-year-old, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

Yet, he denied one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody prior to a additional proceeding on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.

She said his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

The man played a "sweet game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the young males "repeatedly", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She stated the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.

The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his family member had concerns about the activities, justifiably.

"They chose" to investigate in the man's possessions."

The prosecutor said items including lubricant, petroleum jelly and medical needles were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the defendant continued to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.

"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she continued.

The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.

Mrs Prior said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities once more.

She stated the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
